The Habersham County Board of Commissioners voted Monday night to surplus two pieces of county-owned property in Clarkesville.

One of the properties is a 0.04-acre tract with a 1,314-square-foot commercial building located at 1387 Washington Street. The Soque River Watershed Association (SRWA) offices are currently housed in the building.

The other tract is a 0.8-acre vacant lot located at 121 Bryant Street. The property fronts Monroe Street and is adjacent to Classic Car Wash on the west side of town.

Commissioners met in executive session for 45 minutes before voting on the matter during their regular monthly meeting Monday night, April 17.

Earlier in the evening, Janet Westervelt from SRWA spoke during public comments requesting that the nonprofit be permitted to purchase the property from the county. The commission did not indicate if there were any other interested parties in either property.

Voting to surplus the lots allows the county to move forward with selling them.
