Habersham County EMS received a new Frazer Bilt ambulance that will be placed into service soon at Station 9. Over the next few weeks, the new unit will be stocked and inspected and will replace another higher-mileage unit which will be moved to reserve status.

The emergency vehicle, which was delivered Wednesday, Feb. 7, features a silver body with red and black reflective graphic elements, a design that began with the delivery of the county’s first Frazer Bilt ambulance in September 2020.

This unit meets all the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services safety standards and includes LED lighting. It has a separate generator to allow the unit to maintain its patient area temperature and keep medications at the proper temperature without the engine idling for long periods.

A product of Frazer Ltd. in Houston, Texas, the new unit is on a Ford F-450 chassis.

Habersham County is averaging 60,000 to 75,000 miles per year on each of its six front-line ambulances, with most of that coming from transports to hospitals outside the county, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton, and others.

The ambulance was purchased through the county’s 1-cent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
