Habersham Commission reclassifies 911 operators as first responders; approves expenditures

The Habersham County Commission met for their monthly meeting August 17, where the board made multiple unanimous advances in the approval of equipment for emergency services.

The monthly regular meeting of the Habersham Board of Commissioners resulted in multiple unanimous votes expanding Habersham Emergency Services’ resources.

The commission unanimously voted to reclassify 911 operators as first-responders and the purchase of two infectious disease transportation units, nine Stryker patient loading systems, and six portable transport ventilators for Habersham Emergency Services with CARES act funding.

The commission also unanimously voted to purchase hardware and backup services for county government to protect against hardware failure, environmental threats, loss of service, ransomware and malware attacks.

The commission briefly discussed Governor Kemp’s Aug. 15 executive order pertaining to allowing local governments to mandate mask usage. The board, all unmasked, discussed no plans to institute a mask mandate in Habersham county or government buildings.
