Habersham Church League Crowns Champions

The 2016 Habersham County Church League for adult men’s softball wrapped its season Monday night, with a champion being crowned in both the Church League and Industrial League.

The league consists of 20 teams; 14 church teams and six industrial. Only the top four in each division advances to a one-night playoff. In the opening games, #2 seed River Point edged out #3 Cornelia Christian 11-10, advancing to the title game for the second time in five years. #1-seed Torch also narrowly advanced with a 17-15 win over Gillsville, the reigning Church League champions.

In the finale, Torch jumped out to a 10-0 lead over River Point, and never relinquished its lead. River Point stormed back, but Torch held on for the 23-18 win. Torch went 16-1 overall while River Point was 14-3.

In the Industrial League, the Mighty Ducks took their second straight league title with a decisive 22-7 win over Cantrell Towing. In the opening games, #2-seeded Mighty Ducks used a walkoff homerun to slip past #3 Legit. #4-seeded Cantrell shocked top-seeded El Patron 13-7 to reach the finale.
