Habersham boys/girls place sixth at Region T&F Championships

Both the Habersham boys and girls track and field programs finished in sixth place at the Region 8-AAAAAA Track & Field Championships on Tuesday at Lanier High School.

BOYS – 6th Place Overall

It was the boys’ junior Jim Barnett who highlighted the individual efforts, as he took the region title in long jump by roughly four inches ahead of the second-place finisher. Barnett also placed 4th in the high jump and 3rd in the triple jump, and ran in the 4×100 relay in which the boys finished 7th.

Other top-five finishes for the boys included Jake Jones’ 4th-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles and Will Hatchett’s 5th-place finish in the 800 meter run. Reyburn Ross also had a good showing, finishing 7th in both the 200 meter dash and shot put, 6th in the long jump and 9th in the triple jump.

Hatchett also placed 11th in the 1600 meter run, followed by teammate Jordan Castenada. Hatchett was 11th in the 3200 as well, ahead of fellow Raider Daniel Chastain. Jones came in 7th in the 300 meter hurdles, while Mathew Benton (who came in 8th in the 110 meter hurdles) placed 6th ahead of Jones.


GIRLS – 6th Place Overall

Maya Banks led the girls with a 3rd-place finish in the 100 meter dash. Hope Cooper came in 7th in both the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. The duo combined with Bella Davidson and Naya Colbert to come in 7th in the 4×100 relay.

Colbert also finished 7th in the long jump. In shot put, McKenzie Williams (9th) and Tonaya Trimiar (10th) led the Lady Raiders. Williams also finished 8th in discus, while Mikaela Hudson finished 9th.
