Habersham County has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for budget transparency.

Habersham’s Finance Department was notified by GFOA that the county was granted the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Fiscal Year 2025 budget on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

This award is intended to represent significant achievements, reflecting the commitment of county governments and staff to upholding high standards in governmental budgeting.

“Without the hard work of ALL departments to provide the required information, this award would not be possible. This process starts at the beginning of the budget cycle, typically in January each year, and doesn’t wrap up for the Finance Department until December,” Interim Finance Director Kiani Holden said. “Our staff go above and beyond during this process and demonstrate an ‘all hands-on deck’ approach. The finance department strives for this award every year and we are now receiving it for the seventh time.”

According to county officials, to earn the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, Habersham County had to meet the nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

These guidelines evaluate how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications tool. The budget must be rated proficient in all categories, as well as in fourteen other mandatory criteria within those categories, to qualify for the award.
