HABCO middle school XC girls win region tournament, boys place 2nd

The Habersham County Middle School Cross Country team had a great run at their region tournament recently in Madison County.

HABCO girls place 1st

The girls brought home the first place trophy on September 25. They finished with a one-point lead over host county, Madison.

It was a big victory for the Habersham County middle school girls after finishing third in their first region meet and fighting for second place in the following weeks.

Habersham’s top girl runners were:

  • Abigail Hotard (NHMS), 12 minutes, 57 seconds, finishing second overall (Out of more than 108 runners)
  • Audrey Hotard (NHMS), 13 minutes, 13 seconds, finishing third overall
  • Leah Culpepper (HWMS), 15 minutes, 33 seconds, finishing 17th overall
  • Ansley Means (NHMS), 15 minutes, 36 seconds, finishing 18th overall
  • Haven Bejnerowicz (NHMS), 15 minutes, 47 seconds, finishing 22nd overall
  • Grace Dooley (SHMS), 16 minutes, 42 seconds, finishing 33rd overall
  • Anna Brewer (NHMS), 16 minutes, 46 seconds, finishing 35th overall
HABCO boys place 2nd

The boys posted their best score of the season to take second place in the region out of seven teams. They showed a lot of growth over the year, after starting the region meets with a fourth-place finish.

Habersham’s top boy runners were:

 

  • Aiden Thaxton (NHMS), who ran the two mile race in 11 minutes, 55 seconds and finished in first place overall (out of 120 boy runners)
  • Damion Crow (NHMS), 13 minutes, 8 seconds, finishing seventh overall
  • Landon Chambers (SHMS), 13 minutes, 37 seconds, finishing 15th overall
  • Dalan James (NHMS), 13 minutes, 51 seconds, finishing 22nd overall
  • Connor Gebora (SHMS), 14 minutes, 10 seconds, finishing 25th overall
  • MJ Lowrey (SHMS), 14 minutes, 52 seconds, finishing 37th overall
  • Diego Gonzalez (HWMS), 14 minutes, 55 seconds, finishing 38th overall
  • Zac Baker (HWMS), 15 minutes, 1 second, finishing 40th overall

“All of our runners have worked hard all year to grow more than the teams that were beating us at the beginning of the season,” says Coach Jarrod Bingham. “I couldn’t be more proud of what they accomplished this season.”
