Qualifying timeline set for Baldwin City Council seat

The Habersham County Elections Office has announced qualifying for Baldwin’s Post 2 Council seat special election. Qualifying for the vacant Post 2 seat will begin on Monday, August 5, and continue through Friday, August 9.

The hours of qualifying will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Friday, August 9, hours for qualifying will be 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The qualifying fee will be $35.

It will be an at-large election for the Baldwin City Council Post 2 seat and will be held during the General Election on Tuesday, November 5, at the Habersham South Precinct.

The Post 2 seat was vacated by Council member Joseph Satterfield, resulting in the special election. The seat will have 3 years, 1 month, and approximately 18 days left in its term, beginning November 13, 2024 and runs through December 31, 2027.

The deadline to register to vote for the November 5 election is October 7.

Eligible candidates can qualify at the Habersham County Elections & Voter Registration Office, 403 Habersham County Shopping Center, Cornelia, Georgia 30531.

Satterfield announced his resignation during the Baldwin City Council work session on June 4. Satterfield recently got married and he and his wife have decided to live in the Asheville, NC area.  His last day on the council will be July 29.

Satterfield was the only qualifying candidate for the Post 2 seat last year and took office in January of this year. He leaves the council after only serving for seven months.
