HabCo BOE will discuss school safety, SRO contract, first day of school

The Habersham County Board of Education will receive an update during its work session on school safety, discuss the school resource officer contract, and preparations for the first day of school.

Habersham County Schools Director of School Safety Murray Kogod will give an update to the school board members about the progress of the strategic plan and a school safety update. Over the last year, Kogod has been implementing a strategic plan to improve school safety. One initiative has been the installation of keyless entry ways for administrators, teachers, and school resource officers.

Assistant School Superintendent Patrick Franklin will be discussing with the board members the school resource officer contract with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. This is the first year that the Board of Education will be paying 100% of the cost for the school resource officers.

Franklin and Director of Elementary Schools Dr. Susan Davis are set to discuss the first day of school with the board members. Preparations for receiving students have been in full swing over the last couple of weeks. The first day of school is Friday, August 2.

Other discussions

Franklin will give a facilities update for projects that are ongoing and for those projects slated to start in the near future.

The school board is also scheduled to enter into executive session to discuss real estate and personnel.

The Habersham County Board of Education will hold its work session on Thursday, August 1, at 4:30 p.m. It will be held in the Habersham County Board of Education Meeting Room at 144 Holcomb Street in Clarkesville.
