A Gainesville man sustained minor injuries when he wrecked on Cool Springs Road during a police chase Tuesday night.
State troopers say 30-year-old Eulon Carter Burns crashed the 1998 Ford Explorer near GA 17 while being pursued by deputies from Habersham and White counties.
“On May 10, just after 9 p.m., the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office picked up a pursuit started by the White County Sheriffs’ Office. HCSO deputies chased the black ford explorer, who continued to flee and drive recklessly until it was involved in a single-vehicle roll-over crash,” says HCSO Public Information Officer Kevin Angell.
The Georgia State Patrol was called to investigate the crash.
“The suspect lost control and ran off the roadway where the vehicle overturned,” says Sgt. Luke Mize with GSP Post 7 in Toccoa. “Impairment was suspected.”
Two-county chase
The pursuit began around 8:22 p.m. on May 10 when a White County deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle around Putnum Road and Garrison Drive, south of Cleveland. The vehicle also had equipment violations and fled the scene, says White County Sheriff’s Capt. James Couch.
“The deputy pursued the vehicle but lost contact with the vehicle around State Highway 254 and Duncan Bridge Road. The deputy returned into service but was notified later that the vehicle was involved in a pursuit by the Habersham Sheriff’s Office and was involved in a motor vehicle accident, occurring in Habersham County,” says Couch.
Habersham EMS transported Burns to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. None of the deputies involved in the pursuit were injured.
Deputies booked Burns at the Habersham County Detention Center on multiple charges, including felony fleeing, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, and other traffic violations. Wednesday afternoon, he remained in jail on a $25,500 bond.
