Firefighters saved a home from burning to the ground after a grease fire erupted while the residents were cooking.

The fire broke out around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 1068 Highway 255 North. The residents called 911 to report the kitchen was on fire. White County Firefighters responded, along with mutual aid from Helen, Cleveland, and Lee Arrendale Fire Departments.

“Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire that had spread into the ceiling and another room,” says White County Public Safety Director David Murphy. He says other parts of the home received smoke and water damage.

Firefighters remained on the scene for two and a half hours. Fortunately, no one was injured.
