Chad White, Hall County Law Enforcement Historian, is close to completing a project at the Bryan-Furr Cemetery in Gainesville, GA. White and other retired public safety officials are restoring the gravesite of former Hall County Sheriff Benjamin Bryan who served Hall County from 1858-1860 and died in 1881.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the headstone of Sheriff Bryan was “in a state of extreme disrepair when it was discovered, removed from its base, and broken into pieces.”

Phase One of the project included clearing the grounds of the cemetery. Phase Two involved the repair of the headstone.

During the process, it was reported that some 40 unmarked graves were discovered. In Phase Three of the project, these graves will be marked with crosses.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office stated that former Flowery Branch Police Chief Gerald Lanich and Gainesville Police Department retirees Lt. Marty Lee and Mike Huckaby assisted with the project.
