Grammy nominee returns home to Habersham

John Burke will host a free solo concert in Clarkesville on July 21

John Burke's album Orogen was nominated for Best New Age Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. Burke is a 2007 graduate of Habersham Central High School.

Grammy-nominated composer John Burke has moved back to the mountains and will host a free solo piano concert on Wednesday, July 21, at 7 pm at Clarkesville United Methodist Church.

A 2007 graduate of Habersham Central, John studied Spanish and music at Oglethorpe University. He played regularly with John King, a Habersham native turned Nashville country star, in their band Vinyl.

John released his first solo piano album, Synesthesia, in 2011 after being inspired by pianist George Winston. In the past 10 years, he has scored film, theatre, and video games, released numerous albums, and even written a musical.

In 2017, John’s album Orogen was nominated for Best New Age Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. That same year, he was the featured artist at Total Eclipse of the Park, a communitywide solar eclipse viewing party in Clarkesville sponsored by Now Habersham, the local Chamber, and Clarkesville Main Street.

John’s recent release for string quintet, Sons of Kronos, headlined the 2020 Atlanta Chamber Music Festival.

This year, John will release a new solo piano album.

John plays gigs all over Georgia, directs music, and scores various projects. Now settled into his mountain home, he has begun building a studio to work on even bigger projects than before.

John lives quietly and happily with his wife, son, and two cats.
