Six Do’s and Don’ts when making your December donation
Goodwill of North Georgia is gearing up for its busiest week of the year. In the six days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, the nonprofit expects to serve about 100,000 donors.
The nonprofit offers this checklist of things donors should consider while preparing for their annual donation trip.
Don’t Wait to Donate: If you’re looking to make a charitable contribution for the 2019 tax year, December 31 is the last day to do so. You may be waiting until New Year’s to make your donation, but you can avoid the rush by dropping it off sooner than later. Don’t forget your receipt!
Do Declutter: When you think of donating to Goodwill, you’ll likely immediately think of clothing. However, Goodwill accepts books, CD’s, DVD’s, kitchen appliances, furniture, and much more. They will even make sure that the old desktop computer in the family room is properly recycled. Allow Goodwill to turn your clutter into someone else’s treasure.
Don’t Forget Your Goods: ‘Tis the season for giving, but the last thing you want to do is donate something you planned to keep. Be sure to double-check pant and coat pockets, as well as dresser drawers and anywhere else valuables, may be forgotten.
Goodwill of North Georgia uses its donated good program to help fund job training and employment services at its 13 career centers. In fiscal year 2019, the nonprofit says it provided job training and employment services to 51,915 people and helped 25,688 people find jobs or start new businesses.
“With just one bag of donations, you can provide an hour of job training to someone looking for employment,” says Goodwill of North Georgia’s Vice President of Marketing Elaine Armstrong.
Goodwill collects donations at more than 100 locations in North Georgia. Use Goodwill’s online location finder to find the Goodwill nearest you.
