The City of Demorest is making final preparations for its annual Independence Day celebration on July 4th with a parade, day-long festival and fireworks display.
City officials say the event will be held, rain or shine.
This year’s Glorious Fourth begins at 10 a.m. with the opening of vendor booths on Georgia Street. There will be food, arts & crafts, and kids activities. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and fireworks are scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

There will be a horseshoe and corn hole tournament in Demorest Springs Park along with concerts throughout the day. This year’s entertainment line-up includes: Concord Baptist Church, The Maggie Valley Band, Jared Brooks, Alan Baker, Mat Fried, The Whispering Gypsies, and The John King Band.
The ever popular cakewalk takes place at 5 p.m. in the Post Office parking lot on Georgia Street.
The day will be capped off with fireworks. To view the Glorious Fourth fireworks display you will need to be in downtown Demorest. City Clerk Marlena Sosebee says Hwy. 441/Central Avenue will be closed to traffic so that “everyone can come into the road to view the show.”
The road will be shut down from 8:45 p.m. until the fireworks end, according to Demorest Police Chief Robin Krockum.
For those wishing to celebrate our nation’s birthday on into the night, The John King Band will perform an ‘after fireworks’ concert in Demorest Springs Park.
