Feeling a wee bit Irish?
Here are a few ways to help you celebrate the day:
1. Impress your co-workers with the facts. The day is named in honor of Maewyn Succat, the patron saint of Ireland. He is credited for bringing Christianity to Ireland. He was kidnapped and sold into slavery at the age of 16. To endure the hardship, he found God. The shamrock represents the Trinity.
2. Dress up like a leprechaun, wear a green shirt, spray paint your hair green, drink a green milkshake, or eat green eggs.
3. Learn some nifty Irish phrases – Tabhair póg dom, táim Éireannach – Kiss me I’m Irish – Pronounce: Too-Irr pogue dum, toyme AY-ron-ock or Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh! – St. Patrick’s Blessing Upon you – Prounced: ban-ock-tee na fay-lah paw-rig ur-iv
4. Eat Traditional Irish food. Shepherd’s Pie, potato bread and black pudding; pink bacon, roasted chicken, corned beef and cabbage; and lamb stew; Irish soda bread.
5. Play Irish music.
6. Put out an Irish Flag.
7. Pinch people who do not have on green.
8. Learn an Irish jig
9. Visit one of the cities that celebrate St. Patrick’s Day: Dublin, GA; Savannah, GA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Pittsburg, PA or travel to Ireland itself!
10. Have a green doughnut from Krispy Kreme
