The annual Lake Tugalo Clean-Up event is scheduled for this Thursday, August 11. Boats will launch from the South Carolina Tugalo Boat Ramp off Highway 76 beginning at 9 a.m. Participants will need to bring their own boat or kayak, personal safety equipment, drinking water, and sunscreen.

The event is being hosted by the Georgia Power Lake Resource Group and the North Georgia Hydro Group.

“Georgia Power remains committed to helping citizens and lake visitors maintain the beauty of Lake Tugalo,” says Jeff Jackson, Georgia Power Lake Resources Manager. “Events like this provide an opportunity for us to come together as a community to preserve our natural resources and build relationships with our customers.”

For over two decades, Georgia Power has hosted this annual event to maintain the environment around the lakeshore and help make the lake safer for recreational use. Last year, with the help of volunteers and partners, between 600-700 pounds of trash was removed from the lake.

Lake Tugalo is an integral part of Georgia Power’s hydroelectric systems in Northeast Georgia. The lake, which is owned by Georgia Power, has 18 miles of shoreline, covering 597 acres.
