The Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee is the latest major fall event to be canceled in North Georgia due to the ongoing pandemic.
Fair organizers posted a notice about the cancellation to their Facebook page Friday.
“We are sad to announce the cancellation of the 70th Annual Georgia Mountain Fair,” they said. “Though this decision was difficult, the safety and health of our attendees, vendors, staff, and volunteers will always come first.”
The fair was to have taken place August 14-22.
Earlier this month, organizers of the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair in Clarkesville canceled their big annual event for the first time in its 45-year history. The fair was to have taken place the week of September 11. Operation Manager Brenda Kinsey said at the time they might try to hold a smaller event with carnival rides only during the same week if the COVID-19 situation improves.
