There will be no three-peat for the Georgia Bulldogs. The College Football Playoff selection committee chose Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama for this year’s semifinal.

Alabama swept into the playoffs after winning the SEC championship against Georgia Saturday, 27-24, snapping the Bulldogs’ 29-game win streak. For the first time since 2020, Georgia won’t be in the playoff.

Michigan will face Alabama in the Rose Bowl, and Washington will play Texas in the Sugar Bowl on January 1. The winners will square off for the national championship on January 8 in Houston.

Florida State eliminated

Georgia fans aren’t the only ones left reeling by the CFP selection committee’s decision. Florida State is the first unbeaten Power Five conference champion to be excluded from the four-team field.

This is the final season of the four-team playoff before it expands to 12 next year. The limited number of slots presented the CFP selection committee with its toughest decision in the 10-year history of the postseason system.

The Seminoles (13-0) lost star quarterback Jordan Travis to a season-ending injury two weeks ago but continued to win with a backup and then a third-string quarterback. But the committee is instructed to judge the teams for what they are heading into the playoff and decided FSU without Travis was not among the best four in the country, AP reports.

Despite the disappointment, fans will get a chance to see the Seminoles and Bulldogs in action again this year when they face off in the Orange Bowl on December 30.
