Georgia fireworks ban lifted

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has lifted the temporary ban on fireworks in more than 100 Georgia counties.

On December 20th, Deal issued an executive order rescinding his previous order banning the ignition of consumer fireworks in drought-stricken areas of the state.

The new order states that since the ban was enacted on November 14th “much of the state has received rainfall amounts sufficient for the State Forestry Commission and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to lift their bans on outdoor campfires.” As a result, “The Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner has determined that increased precipitation in recent weeks has diminished the threat posed by consumer fireworks and has requested the prohibition against the ignition of consumer fireworks be lifted.”

All of Northeast Georgia was covered by the ban including the counties of Habersham, Banks, Dawson, Elbert, Fannin, Forsyth, Franklin, Gilmer, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White.
