Georgia early voters continue to turn out in large numbers

Georgia voters continue to turnout in large numbers across the state to cast their ballots during the second week of early voting.

This election has seen more voters go to the polls during the first eleven days of early voting than turned out for the entire early voting period for the presidential and local primaries in March and May.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, Georgia posted a 38.7% early voter turnout. Nearly 2.8 million of the state’s 7.2 million active voters cast in-person and absentee ballots between Tuesday, October 15 and Saturday, October 26.

Northeast region

The regional voter turnout for Northeast Georgia is an impressive 40.5%, with just over 553,000 votes cast by the region’s 1.3 million active voters.

Figures from the Georgia Election Data Hub show that voters from Northeast Georgia are turning out in large numbers, with five counties exceeding 51%. Towns County has the highest early voter turnout in the state at just over 58.36%. Rabun County was second with 51.64% and Dawson County a close third at 51.61%. Union County posted 51.53% followed by Oconee County posting 51.06% voter turnout.

According to Election Data Hub, nine of the top 20 counties for voter turnout by percentage are in the Northeast Georgia region.

Two precincts open in Habersham

Habersham County posted a 41.6% early voter turnout, as 12,725 of the county’s 30,581 active voters cast ballots during the first eleven days of early voting.

Habersham County will have two polling precincts open during the week of October 28 through November 1. The South Precinct in Cornelia and the North Precinct in Clarkesville will be open for voters to cast a ballot.

The Habersham North Precinct is located in the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center at 120 Paul Franklin Road off of Toccoa Highway in Clarkesville. The Habersham South Precinct is located in the Habersham County Elections and Voter Registration Office at 403 Habersham County Shopping Center in Cornelia.

The hours for voting at both precincts will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Voters still have time to cast a ballot with five more days of early voting prior to the November 5 General Election. Friday, November 1, will be the last day for early voting.
