GAINESVILLE – Temperatures are still below freezing in many parts of Northeast Georgia. Low temperatures and winter weather accumulations on the road can cause many of the roads, especially bridges and overpasses, to remain icy.
Majority of the roads are passable in Northeast Georgia. Georgia DOT crews are paying close attention to the bridges and overpasses and the roads in Rabun County. Crews are treating the roads with salt and gravel as needed. While temperatures continue to linger below freezing, we are still asking motorists not to drive if they do not have to get on the roads. If they must travel, in the Northeast Georgia area, be extremely cautious and take their time. Motorists should give themselves plenty of room between themselves and the car ahead of them. Drivers can call 511 to report icy conditions on the interstates and state routes. Motorists should report road conditions in subdivisions and city streets to their local governments. Georgia DOT’s priorities are to keep our interstates and heavily-traveled state routes passable , especially for emergency vehicles.
If motorists see a GDOT truck spreading gravel and salt, please give the GDOT truck enough room to work. If they encounter a non-working traffic signal, please treat the intersection as an all-way stop. Georgia DOT crews will continue to work until the winter weather event ends.
