The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded Vertical Earth, Inc. the contract to construct a Restricted Access U-Turn or RCUT at the intersection of State Route 365 and the cross street Mount Zion Road.

There were six bidders for the project, the state transportation department says.

The project is part of the Quick Response Program that allows Georgia DOT to quickly identify, approve and construct small traffic operations safety projects on the state route system.

Mount Zion Road at State Route 365 is one of several Habersham County intersections identified for an RCUT to improve traffic flow and safety. The project was expedited following a collision in July that killed five people.

Several RCUTs have already been installed along the 365 corridor. Work on the Mt. Zion Road intersection should begin shortly, says GDOT District One Communications Officer Elizabeth Johnson.
