The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has awarded $750,000 to the city of Cornelia for sewer improvements. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is one of 60 awarded in Georgia this year.
Awards ranging from $260,000 to $1 million will be used for specific projects such as water, sewer, drainage or street improvements, revitalization of targeted neighborhoods and construction of facilities such as health, youth and senior centers. Communities are required to complete their designated project within two years of receiving the award.
“Strong and prosperous communities help attract businesses and jobs,” says DCA Commissioner Christopher Nunn. “Projects like the one in Cornelia help stimulate economic development and enhance the quality of life for the whole community.”
The CDBG program is backed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
