George Arthur Funk

obit flagFuneral services for George Arthur Funk, age 72, and a lifelong resident of Mt. Airy, will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 2pm from the Hillside Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Hillside Gardens Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Navy.

Mr. Funk passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Habersham County on September 30, 1942, Mr. Funk was the son of the late Godfrey Martin and Essie Pearl Hefner Funk. Mr. Funk was retired from the United States Navy and from Scovill Fasteners. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Funk is preceded in death by brothers Godfrey Funk, Harvey Funk, and Ralph Funk and sister Emma Mae Hunter.

Survivors include son and daughter in law George Martin “Marty” and wife Gena Funk of Mt. Airy, daughter and son in law Tina Funk Stamey and Husband Scott of the Batesville Community, son Scott Tyron Funk of Mt. Airy, brother James Funk of Homer, sisters Agnes Powell of Mt. Airy, Betty Jean Funk of Mt. Airy, and Bonnie Lee Chambers of Lilburn, grandsons and spouses Jordan and Valerie Stamey and Jonathan and Brittney Stamey, great grandchildren Balin Humphrys, Will Stamey and Garrison Stamey as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 6-9 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 17 Executive Park, Suite 115, Atlanta, GA 30329-2012.
