Gena Montina Butts Funk, age 52, of Mount Airy, Georgia entered into eternal life December 16, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Gena was born in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Mildred (Mickey) S. Butts and Harold Butts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents Raymond and Leona Ballington, John Filbert, Minnie Butts, and her best friend, Linda Whitlock.
She worked for Piedmont Automotive for 34 years and volunteered at local nursing homes with her dogs Nikita and Tucker.
She is survived by her loving husband George Martin (Marty) Funk, Mount Airy, Georgia; her brother, Jeffery Butts of Columbia, South Carolina; sister, Gwen Bell of Gainesville; nephews Bradley Ward (Brooklyn), Jordan Stamey (Valerie) and Jonathan Stamey (Brittney); sister in law and brother in law, Scott and Tina Funk Stamey of Batesville; and brother in law, Scott Funk of Mount Airy: as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by her much loved babies, her horses, dogs and cats. Gena leaves behind many loved ones and those friends whose lives she touched and forever will be changed by knowing her. She was very dedicated to her friends and family and was loved very much.
Family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Hillside Memorial Chapel. A celebration of life service to honor Gena will be held at Hillside Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at 2:30 PM. Burial will be private.
