The busted retaining wall on Highway 441 in Demorest is one step closer to being repaired. This week, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced it has awarded the contract for slope repair to Cumming firm.

A section of the wall cracked when the remnants of Hurricane Delta deluged Habersham County the weekend of October 10-11, 2020.

Vertical Earth Incorporated was the low bidder. The firm will oversee the .189-mile repair project for $732,928, says GDOT.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
