GDOT Awards $37.8 million for Northeast Georgia Construction Contracts

GAINESVILLE – The Department of Transportation for the State of Georgia awarded $37.8 million for five Northeast Georgia projects in Dawson, Barrow, Hall and Hart counties.

The largest contract for Northeast Georgia was approximately $25.5 million awarded to CMES, Inc. for a reconstruction/rehabilitation project in Barrow County. The project will widen SR 211 from I-85 Northbound ramp terminals to north of Pinot Noir Drive.

Located entirely within the Town of Braselton, the proposed SR 211 widening will increase the roadway to four lanes and include the addition of a five-and-a-half foot sidewalk along the east side of the SR 211 bridge. The project will also create two new multilane roundabouts at the SR 211 intersections (I-85 southbound ramps and Braselton Parkway Extension /Tour de France Drive) to improve traffic flow. The project is expected to be completed on October 31, 2025.

In Hall County, the Elachee Road (CR 472) bridge that crosses over I-985 will be replaced. Built in 1967, the 51-year-old bridge is showing its age. The $7.4 million contract was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. and is expected to be complete in late fall 2023.

A district maintenance project of $4.5 million for the resurfacing of roadway SR 51 has been awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. to mill, inlay, and resurface with shoulder rehabilitation. The construction zone on SR 51 begins at SR 8 and extends north of Hatton Ford Road. Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of May 2023.

A culvert that was washed out by tropical storm Zeta will be reconstructed by North Georgia Concrete Inc. The construction of the culvert at Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawson County is tentatively scheduled to be completed by May 31, 2023.

According to a transportation department press release, contracts were awarded to the lowest bidder. Start dates have not been established for any contracts, and scheduled completion dates are subject to change.
