A Towns County Sheriff’s Office deputy who claimed to have been shot by a suspect in December has been arrested for false report of a crime, according to GBI.
Last month, Austin Bradburn, 26, of Blairsville, said he’d been shot during an altercation with a white male after a traffic stop on Plott Town Road in Young Harris, triggering a manhunt by state and local authorities.
Bradburn had been hospitalized and a GoFundMe started to support his family after the shooting.
Bradburn now has been arrested and charged with false report of a crime and violation of oath of office as well as multiple other counts of false statements and violation of oath of office in Union and Hall counties.
“The GBI conducted a thorough and independent investigation which revealed information to support the charges against Bradburn,” a release by GBI states.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Towns County 911 or the GBI Tipline at 800-597-TIPS (8477). Tips also can be submitted online here.
