The recent death of an Alto woman who died while in custody in Banks County has been ruled a suicide. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says 48-year old Tammy Greenway died from “self-inflicted injuries.”
Greenway was found unconscious in her cell on the morning of January 26, 2016. According to the GBI, Banks County Sheriff’s Office personnel began emergency medical procedures and contacted EMS. Greenway was transported to Northridge Hospital in Commerce where she was pronounced dead.
Greenway had been in jail since January 23 when she was arrested for aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act.
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI Athens office to investigate the incident. A press release issued by the GBI says, at this time, no foul play is suspected.
