FORSYTH, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) held a solemn ceremony on May 13 at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center to honor and remember the unidentified remains entrusted to the agency’s care.
The event marked the official dedication of the GBI’s new mausoleum, a permanent resting place designed to ensure dignity and respect for individuals whose identities remain unknown.
“Our mission is rooted in bringing justice, answers, and closure,” said GBI Director Chris Hosey. “Even when names are not yet known, each person deserves to be treated with dignity, honor, and respect. This mausoleum ensures that these individuals are cared for in a manner befitting that belief.”
Prior to the mausoleum’s construction, unidentified remains were respectfully housed in temporary facilities. The new structure provides a long-term solution, preserving the remains with care while investigators continue working to reunite them with their families.
GBI staff and forensic specialists attended the ceremony, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to missing persons cases. Their work includes using advanced forensic science, tapping into national databases, and collaborating with law enforcement across Georgia and beyond.
