Habersham County officials opened an investigation into the death of an Alto man Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said the man’s body was found by a family member just after 3 p.m. at a residence on Mt. Zion Road Connector.

“While foul play is not suspected at this time, the body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation State Crime Lab in Decatur for evaluation,” McEntire said. “No further details will be released at this time pending the outcome of that exam and notification of family members.”

Habersham County spokesperson Rob Moore said the sheriff’s office initially requested assistance from the GBI, but that request was canceled before investigators arrived.
