GBI arrests North Carolina man in NEGA child molestation case

A Sylva, North Carolina, man recently released from jail in his home state is behind bars in Georgia. The GBI arrested and charged 32-year-old Donathan Shelton with child molestation and sexual battery.

On April 29, 2022, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to assist in a child abuse investigation. In October of 2022, a Towns County Grand Jury indicted Shelton on two counts of child molestation and sexual battery, a GBI press release said.

Georgia authorities issued a bench warrant for his arrest, but Shelton was already serving time on unrelated charges in Jackson County, NC. When he was released on July 18, he was extradited to Georgia and booked into the Towns County Detention Center.

The GBI says the child molestation investigation is active and ongoing. The case file was given to the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office and is pending in court.
