Our Round One Game of the Week takes us to Commerce for the second time this season in a first round playoff matchup.
Commerce
After an 0-2 start to the season, Jaiden Daniels made the selfless and valiant move to QB. The Tigers are reaping the benefits. Daniels, along with power back Tysean Wiggins and a shifty Jacari Huff have all combined for over 3,000 rushing yards and exactly 37 TD on the ground. Elite…that unit has guided Commerce to this point, and the defense has been solid as well. This has the feeling of another deep playoff run.
Bremen
The Blue Devils alternated wins and losses for the first 9 games of the season, but now have a 2-game win streak coming in. That has momentum with it. The team is fairly balanced with a defense that has allowed 14 total points in the past 2 games combined.

The lowdown
Commerce has the home field, and that certainly matters here. The Tigers are 3-2 though this season at Ray Lamb, so that’s not a given. Regardless, if the carries are evenly spread out between Wiggins, Daniels, and Huff, it’ll keep Bremen guessing and provide problems. The Blue Devils meanwhile have to find a way to forget where they are playing. On the road, Bremen is just 1-3 this year. If their defense finds a way to shut down Wiggins specifically, it could find itself with an opportunity to steal a win.

This matchup only has a couple of previous chapters. In 2003, #5 Commerce won a 28-14 dogfight at home. Next time, in 2006, Bremen, ranked #7, hosted and was upset by also-#7 Commerce in a 17-3 defensive battle. The Blue Devils finally got one in the win column in 2010 at Commerce in a 34-24 final. Each instance was a playoff game, so the postseason rivalry re-ignites after a 14-year hiatus.
