After a lengthy investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, a Gainesville mother has been charged with second-degree murder in the overdose death of her 13-year-old son.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Holly Deanna Sosebee, 30, was arrested on Friday, March 29. She remains in the Hall County Detention Center without bond.
On June 8, 2023, Sosebee’s son, Landon Nicholas Sosebee, was found dead in their home on Lee Street.
Due to the victim’s age, the death was labeled suspicious and authorities ordered an autopsy. The state medical examiner listed Landon’s official cause of death as “combined toxic effects of fentanyl and xylazine.”
The investigation determined the illegal narcotics belonged to his mother and she had left them in an unsecured location where they were easily accessible to her son, the news release states.
In addition to murder, investigators charged Holly Sosebee with second-degree cruelty to children. Both charges are felonies.
