Gainesville man killed in White County crash

An early morning wreck in White County claimed the life of a Gainesville man. 36-year-old Jake Chambers was fatally injured Monday when his car crashed around 7:22 a.m. on Skitts Mountain Road east of Mason Drive.

Chambers was driving westbound on Skitts Mountain Road in a 2000 Ford Mustang when he ran off the road in a curve. The car hit a ditch and overturned as it traveled down an embankment, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The car vaulted over its front end, coming to an uncontrolled rest upside down.

Troopers with Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville investigated the wreck. They say Chambers was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the fatal crash.

Chambers is the second person to die on area roads in the past two days. On Sunday, a 21-year-old Lula woman was killed when she lost control of her car and struck a utility pole. State Troopers say Courtney Flanagan was not wearing her seatbelt. She was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
