A Gainesville man was arrested earlier this week after allegedly pistol-whipping a male victim at a gas station in Gwinnett County, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Police took the man into custody for aggravated assault following an incident at a gas station in unincorporated Suwanee on Wednesday Jan. 29.
Officers from Gwinnett’s Central Precinct responded at 7 p.m. to reports of a shooting at a BP gas station located at 2090 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road – where they found a male victim with a head injury.
The victim, who was later transported to a local hospital, claimed to have been shot by an unknown male. An investigation and review of security footage later determined the victim had instead been struck in the head with a firearm, according to police, and the “force of the blow caused the weapon to discharge.”
Detectives also determined the altercation occurred after the two men “shoulder-checked” each other inside the gas station.
Detectives identified the suspect as 30-year-old Isaac Hernandez, of Gainesville, and with assistance from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, authorities say Hernandez was located and taken into custody in Gainesville without incident.
Hernandez was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The investigation is ongoing, and police say additional charges may follow.
