A Gainesville man was arrested Sunday following a vehicle and foot chase.

White County Sheriff Rick Kelley said that on Sunday, March 17, around 3 am, deputies attempted to stop a white Kia on Highway 129 south of Cleveland.

The driver, identified as Derrace Reshand Damons, age 43, of Gainesville, refused to stop and fled from deputies. White County deputies performed the PIT maneuver on the vehicle at the White/Hall county line.

Kelly said Damons was able to regain control of his vehicle and continued into Hall County, where he wrecked close to Clarks Bridge Road. After a brief foot chase, Damons was taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail.

According to Kelley, deputies located a firearm and a large amount of drugs inside the vehicle.

Damons has been charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, trafficking fentanyl, possession of cocaine, fleeing/attempting to elude, and numerous traffic charges.
