A Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after authorities say he trespassed on Lyman Hall Elementary School’s playground and tried to play soccer with students.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Victor Hugo Yanez-Aguayo came on school property around 2:30 p.m. without permission and began interacting with students who were playing soccer. The school principal saw Yanez-Aguayo on the playground with the children and placed the school on lockdown, instructing teachers and students to shelter in place within their classrooms.
The Hall County School Resource Officer, who was assigned to the school, detained Yanez-Aguayo as he was climbing the fence between the school and Titshaw Drive. Officials with the Hall County School District sent a message to parents of Lyman Hall students Tuesday evening informing them of the incident.
Officials say Yanez-Aguayo had no known connection to the school. He was charged with loitering upon school premises and disruption of a public school, both misdemeanors. Yanez-Aguayo remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.
