A 30-year-old Gainesville man remains in jail following his arrest just after midnight Tuesday on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

A press release from the sheriff’s office states that on July 5, at approximately 11:56 p.m., a deputy with the White County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2008 Chevrolet Impala on Webster Lake Road. The vehicle was weaving excessively and crossing the centerline, the release states. The driver refused to stop and began driving at a high rate of speed.

The sheriff’s office says the deputy continued to pursue the vehicle which left the roadway running into a ditch. The driver regained control of the vehicle and turned onto Skitts Mountain Road. The deputy noticed what appeared to be a juvenile as a passenger at which time the officer terminated the pursuit as the vehicle approached the Hall County line, officials say.

With the assistance of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle, driver, and passenger were located just inside Hall County.

The driver, identified as Emmanuel Robinson of Gainesville, was arrested by a White County deputy and transported to the White County Jail. Robinson was charged with failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, speeding, driving while license suspended or revoked, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer (felony), reckless conduct, and failure to obey a stop sign.

According to the sheriff’s office, the juvenile was detained by Hall County deputies. No one was injured in the pursuit.
