Driver charged with DUI in serious injury wreck on GA 365

State troopers charged a Buford driver with DUI and other traffic violations following a rear-end wreck on GA 365 at Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway. The wreck injured two people.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, 35-year-old Ashley Rachelle Gustafson was driving a GMC Terrain south on GA 365. Troopers say Gustafson approached the intersection “at a high rate of speed.” The Terrain struck the rear of a Kia Sportage that was stopped at the red light.

Habersham County and Demorest emergency personnel were dispatched to the wreck at 1:43 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1. Ambulances transported the injured patients to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. According to sheriff’s office spokesperson Rob Moore, one was in serious condition.

In addition to DUI, troopers charged Gustafson with no proof of insurance, following too closely, and a seatbelt violation.

The wreck blocked cross-traffic on Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway. The intersection fully reopened at 2:54 p.m.

The State Patrol has not released the name of the driver whose vehicle was hit.
