The Georgia State Patrol has released the names of five people injured in a weekend crash on GA 365 in Alto. The release was delayed because four of the five are not U.S. citizens, said GSP Post 7 Commander Donnie Sadler.
The state patrol had previously partially identified the driver troopers say caused the April 2 wreck as a 55-year-old man from Alto. He’s since been fully identified as Sam Vasco Manley.
According to troopers, Manley was driving a Honda Civic westbound on Crane Mille Road when he attempted to cross over the highway. He failed to yield and ran into the path of a southbound Chevrolet van carrying four people, officials say.
The van driver, Francisco Rodriguez, 40, of Norcross, and a passenger were ejected upon impact.
The passengers are identified as 38-year-old Santiago Barbery and 32-year-old Jose Rodriguez, also of Norcross, and 43-year-old Nilda Mazariegos of Lilburn.
Troopers from Post 7 and GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the crash around 2:50 p.m. Saturday. Habersham County Emergency Services requested assistance from Baldwin and Hall County due to the high number of injuries.
Ambulances transported three patients from the scene in critical condition. Two others suffered severe injuries, according to HCES Capt. Matt Ruark. All five were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.
The wreck shut down GA 365 South near the crash site for nearly two hours as law enforcement worked the scene.
The state patrol has not released information on any charges.
