Funeral services are scheduled later this week for a Clarkesville woman who was killed in an automobile accident in White County. Peggy Lovell, 88, died in a crash Monday on U.S. 129 South in front of the Jacky Jones Ford Dealership near Cleveland.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Lovell was driving behind her husband, Henry, in a 1997 Ford Thunderbird. As they headed east out of the dealership onto the highway, he stopped to wait on traffic, and she rear-ended him. The impact sent the 2010 Ford Focus Henry Lovell was driving across the highway into a righthand turn lane. The Thunderbird then traveled onto the roadway into the path of a southbound truck.
State Troopers say the 2007 Freightliner CMV, driven by 51-year-old Doyle Simmons of Cleveland, struck the Thunderbird in the driver side, fatally injuring Peggy Lovell. Her 91-year-old husband was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with complaints of minor injuries. The wreck did not injure Simmons or his passenger, 33-year-old Bradley Barron of Cumming.
The accident happened around 2:25 p.m. on March 8. Troopers with Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville investigated the crash. No charges are pending.
Peggy Lovell was a native of Habersham County. According to her obituary, she was a homemaker who had worked at Piedmont Automotive and in the lunchroom at Clarkesville Elementary School.
She is survived by her husband and three daughters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at Hills Crossing Baptist Church in Clarkesville.
