Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, for Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Chase Redner. The 31-year-old was killed in the line of duty while investigating a fatal accident on I-75 in Clayton County on Feb. 20.
Redner lived in Cumming. In 2017, he graduated from the University of North Georgia with a Criminal Justice degree. After college, he went on to graduate from the 103rd Trooper School.
“Chase loved serving his state and country through his role as a State Trooper,” his family says in his obituary. They remember him as “a devoted son, friend, and patriot who lived life to the fullest.”

TFC Redner is survived by his mother, Linda Stancil-Redner of Dahlonega, and his fiancé, Leah Owens of Cumming. His funeral is set for 10 a.m. on Feb. 27 at Canton First Baptist Church. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, at Darby Funeral Home in Canton.
The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home’s website.
On Wednesday, the Georgia State Patrol escorted Redner’s body from GBI headquarters in Decatur to the funeral home.
It was the second time in less than a month state troopers have undertaken that solemn duty. They escorted home the body of another fallen trooper, Jimmy Cenescar, on January 30, following his death in a wreck on I-85 during a pursuit. Troopers later arrested the motorcyclist Cenescar was chasing and charged him with felony murder and 1st-degree homicide, among other charges.
Cenescar was memorialized in a funeral service at Mt. Paran Church in northwest Atlanta on Feb. 9.
