Friends and family will gather Thursday to say goodbye to a Cornelia teenager who drowned in Lake Hartwell.
18-year-old Stephen Daniel Bowman died on June 13 while attending Camp Rotary Boy Scout Camp in Hartwell. Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland told reporters Bowman was swimming near a dock with some other teens from the camp when they noticed he was missing.
Rescue divers recovered his body several hours later.
Bowman earned his Eagle Scout rank in 2019 and was a member of Boy Scout Troop #48 in Cleveland. He was a Presidential Scholar Student at Tallulah Falls School where he was to have graduated from on Friday, June 19. Bowman had been accepted to Kennesaw State University where he would have begun studying architecture in the fall.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the First Baptist Church of Cornelia. Private interment will follow in the Hillside Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17.
