The National Weather Service has issued the first Frost Advisory of the season for Northeast Georgia.

The advisory is in effect for White, Towns, Habersham and Rabun Counties and parts of western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina from 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.

In North Carolina, the advisory includes the northern parts of Burke, Caldwell, Polk, and Rutherford counties. In South Carolina, the advisory extends to the northern areas of Greenville, Oconee, and Pickens counties.

Baldwin, Demorest, Saluda, Chimney Rock State Park, Hollywood, Clarkesville, Cornelia, Glassy Mountain, Rocky Bottom, and Mountain Rest are some of the cities covered by the frost advisory.

Overnight temperatures are expected to bottom out in the low/mid-30s in these regions. Coupled with light winds this will allow patchy frost to develop by daybreak, especially in low lying, protected areas.

Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

A more widespread frost is possible Thursday morning and additional advisories are likely.
