It turned out to be a night full of upsets and close finishes around the area.
NOTE: Habersham Central vs Stephens County was rescheduled from Friday to Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
As for the rest, it was business as usual on a Friday night. That being said, some results were not quite as expected. White County had its hands full at North Hall, coming back from 10-0 to win 28-18 at the Brickyard.
The Warriors rebound from a tough loss at home to Rabun last week, and are now 4-1 on the season. Dawson County was stunned by West Hall in a low-scoring game in which the Spartans won on a field goal in the final seconds in Dawsonville, taking down the state-ranked Tigers, who suffered their first loss of the season.
Union remained undefeated, while Lumpkin fought hard against a pesky Chestatee team. The Indians are still in search of their first win of the year. Towns County rolled to a 35-21 win over Riverside, led by Zach Davenport’s 5 touchdowns.
#5 Jefferson also escaped a furious Flowery Branch team who led throughout most of the game. This was perhaps the most exciting game of the night, as the Falcons head coach, Ben Hall, left the Jefferson program after last season and had a shot at taking down his former team. Gene Cathcart got just enough out of his Dragons to pull off an amazing comeback, which including key defensive plays and offensive firepower from legendary running back and cornerback Colby Wood.
