Local teens and college students will have a chance to enjoy a night out in Clarkesville during a special Friday Night Flicks “youth-oriented” movie night!
The Clarkesville Junior Main Street Board brings Pitch Perfect 2, an acapella comedy sequel, to the big screen on Friday, October 2nd at Pitts Park in Clarkesville.
The movie night is the result of a Junior Board request for the popular outdoor movie series to include flicks geared to an older audience.
“We met with them and asked them what they wanted to see in Clarkesville, what event would keep them in town,” explains Mary Beth Horton, Main Street Manager. “They specifically requested a movie night that was just for them. Not a kid movie, but something appropriate for an older audience.”
“As a board, we wanted to create a relaxed environment where the youth of our region could share a fun night with their friends, all while supporting our downtown,” explains Ashley Kemp with the Junior Main Street Board.
“Adding a bonfire, s’mores and other fall-themed activities, helps to create the relaxed surroundings we are striving for. We hope it will be the first of many youth-centered activities to come to downtown Clarkesville.”
The Clarkesville Junior Main Street Board is a division of the Main Street Board and includes 8 local students from the following schools: Habersham Central High School, Tallulah Falls School, Piedmont College and North Georgia Technical College.
One of the goals of the Junior Board is to organize an event that targets their age group. The Board is responsible for creating, marketing, implementing and evaluating the event.
“This group has taken responsibility for handling all of the event promotions, manning the concession stand and organizing pre-show activities,” says Horton. “I cannot tell you how incredible it is to have this young energy driving a new event in our town.”
Movie goers are encouraged to dress warmly and bring a blanket or chair. A bonfire will set the tone to the fall evening, and s ‘mores, caramel apples and other concessions will be available during the movie.
Pitch Perfect 2 is rated PG 13, meaning that some material in the movie may be unsuitable for children under the age of 13. Parental Guidance is suggested.
