FRESH & LOCAL at the Clarkesville Farmers Market, September 10

It’s officially here! The lull between seasons. But market faithful, be of good heart, there’s still plenty of good stuff at the market this week. Come stock up on winter squash, okra, green beans, eggplant, garlic, herbs, fresh baked breads, homemade cookies, and the best caramel corn around! Fall harvest is on its way.

Conveniently located near downtown Clarkesville, the Clarkesville Farmers Market is a 100% chemical free outdoor market (which includes up to six Certified Naturally Grown farms) that’s open Saturdays, 9 a.m. until noon. It’s located next to The Old Clarkesville Mill (683 Grant Street).

This week’s vendors:

Angel Mountain Sweets: Come hungry, because Sherrie is going all out this week: Amish sweet rolls, French bread, yeast dinner rolls, your favorite cakes, and their new tomato specialties. Don’t forget to pick up a bag of our special cookies like Caramel Delights and a bag of fresh baked Cheese Biscuits! As always they take orders for your favorite recipes (send them a Facebook pm via Angel Mountain Sweets).

Aprons–Ties That Bind: Sadie Kelly is a local maker of aprons, aprons, and more aprons. She makes them for babies, children, teens, women, and even men. Some aprons are fun, others are cute, others are creative, but all are great for utilitarian use―the original purpose for aprons. In the kitchen, in the shop, in the garden, in the artist’s studio, or at a party. No two are ever exactly the same. And while you’re at the market, be sure to pick up a flyer that explains the bond created by aprons.

Becca’s Baking: Becca will be selling delicious home baked cookies, rosemary bread, trail mix granola bars, caramel corn, and Larissa’s handmade fruit tea. Becca’s also bringing Christi’s cool hand-painted swirled greeting cards.

Jarhead Farm (CNG): Jarhead will have Hokkaido and Ria Kaw Tuk winter squash, maybe some Calabasa, Sitao green beans, Ping Tong Long and Louisiana Long Green eggplant, a few Rutgers, San Marzano and Borghese tomatoes, some fresh and dried herbs and dried tomatoes.  Of course he’ll have a great selection of whole fruit jams This week’s featured jams are Georgia Fig and Hot Lips Strawberry.

Mill Gap Farm (CNG): Mill Gap Farm will have stringless green beans, okra, red pontiac potatoes, Buthi (Burmese squash), a few plumb tomatoes, French Thermadrone and Rose de Lautrec garlic, Genovese basil, sage, Lemon grass, and mojito mint. Sunflower oil, Sunchoke pickles, Amy’s Burmese peanuts and scrumptious cardamom morning rolls.

Pure & Simple: Lisa is bringing her new hits of the season: hair lotion/beard oil & essential oil roll-ons in three popular scents―citrus, lavender, and peppermint.
