FRESH & LOCAL at the Clarkesville Farmers Market, August 20

The collective, yet complimentary, psychiatric advice from the folks at CFM is simple: When a week or two of gloomy weather gets you down, pick yourself up and head to the market. The fresh air, food, and friendly conversation is sure to have you feeling better in no time.

READ: Farmers market vendors needed

Conveniently located near downtown Clarkesville, the Clarkesville Farmers Market is a 100% chemical free outdoor market (which includes six Certified Naturally Grown farms) that’s open Saturdays, 9 a.m. until noon. It’s located next to The Old Clarkesville Mill (683 Grant Street).

This week’s vendors:

A Frayed Knot: Linda makes handmade and hand sewn items in Habersham. This week she’s bringing a couple of new items: large stand-up zippered cosmetic bags and zippered pencil cases. She’ll also have boutique baby bibs (designer fabrics backed with minky or cotton chenille) for the messy babies you know, reusable and water-resistant waxed canvas lunch bags (two left), chunky zipper fabric pouches, leather key fobs, and cotton webbing wristlet fobs.

Aprons–Ties That Bind: Sadie Kelly is a local maker of aprons, aprons, and more aprons. She makes them for babies, children, teens, women, and even men. Some aprons are fun, others are cute, others are creative, but all are great for utilitarian use―the original purpose for aprons. In the kitchen, in the shop, in the garden, in the artist’s studio, or at a party. No two are ever exactly the same. And while you’re at the market, be sure to pick up a flyer that explains the bond created by aprons.

Berryvine Farm (CNG): Christy is bringing a fresh batch of honey, straight from the hive in Clarkesville, plus butternut squash and apples.

Christi’s Creations: Some of you may know that Christi takes her creativity beyond baking. This week, the market is so excited to introduce Christi’s hand-painted greeting cards. Please stop by the booth and check them out!  The girls will also have lemon blueberry muffins, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, zucchini bread, cinnamon scones, cranberry almond chocolate granola bars, fresh baked rosemary bread, and homemade caramel corn. While you’re there, be sure and pick up some wonderful handmade herbal and fruit teas to take home and enjoy later. Please come early for the best selection!

Jarhead Farm (CNG): Cliff is bringing his hard-to-find international (yet locally grown) harvest including the exciting news that the hot peppers are in! He’s bringing Ghost, Trinidad Scorpion, and Carolina Reaper as well as several others that are not as lethal including that little sweet pepper Aji Dulce. He thinks he may have a few late season (and not so pretty) Rutgers and Borghese tomatoes, Asian eggplant, okra, maybe some yellow squash, probably some winter squash, okra, and Asian long beans. As always, he’ll be hauling his delicious selection of whole fruit jams for you to try, then take home to share with family and friends.

Mill Gap Farm (CNG): Tiger’s very own Chuck Mashburn will be back with red pontiac, white kennebec, and blue potatoes; beans, okra, chanterelle mushrooms, baby corn, fresh sage and mojito mint.  He’ll also be featuring Amy’s Burmese peanuts, cardamom morning rolls, artisan bread, and cold pressed 100% pure sunflower salad oil.

Pure & Simple: Lisa is excited about her two new products in the mix: hair lotion/beard oil & essential oil roll-ons in three popular scents―citrus, lavender, and peppermint. She’ll have a variety of naturally handmade soaps, lip balm, sugar/salt scrub, deodorant, sunscreen, bug repellent, household cleaner, pain cream, body butter, hair oil, hand sanitizer, facial cream, liquid soap, foaming soap, dog & people shampoo bars, laundry soap, bath salts, shave soap, and herbal teas.

The Herb Cottage Market: Tracy is bringing a lot to love this week: Honeysuckle Skin Nectar, Georgia-grown Eucalyptus Sea Salt Soak, Chickweed Salve, Black Walnut Extract (tincture), Rosemary Hair & Scalp Treatment Oil, Lavender oil, Plantain oil, Jewell Weed oil, Citronella oil, Sage Muscle Soothing oil, Lavender Rose Petal Massage oil, Honeysuckle Skin Nectar, Queen of Hungary Water, Herbal Vinegar Hair Rinses with Garden Mint (natural clarifying & ph-balancing hair rinse), Rose Petal Body Balm, Chamomile & Honey Balm, Patchouli Balm, Herbal Healing Balm, Patchouli Balm, Rose Petal Facial Hydrating Mist, Dandelion Flower Salve, Flower & Oat Face Scrub.
